Membership is open to any citizen of voting age.
THE ABC’s OF STATE LEAGUE MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the League of Women Voters of West Virginia may be obtained through national, state or local channels Members Joining any one level of the League automatically become part of the entire League of Women Voters network.
Currently there are 4 local Leagues organized in Huntington, Jefferson County, Morgantown and Wood County.
Local League dues range from $25 to $45. Members living outside these local League areas automatically become Members-at-Large of the state League.
Member-at-Large
This is an individual member of the State League who lives outside the area of a local Leagues. Dues are $40 per year and are paid directly to the state.* As part of the League network, Members at-Large receive the national VOTER and the West Virginia VOTER, both published 5-6 times per year. Additional state League information on program and action is sent from time to time Usually Members-at- Large do not attend meetings, but are entitled to engage in selected League activities recommended by the state Board of Directors.
Member-at-Large Unit
This is an organized group of at least 10 Members-at-Large of the State League. Such groups may be organized at the discretion of the state board in communities where there appears to be sufficient interest MAL Units may have a small steering committee, but no official board of directors since they are a sub-unit of the State board of Directors. They hold at least four meetings per year and may participate in state and national studies, make program recommendations, and perform Voters Service activities in their community with the permission of the state. Dues for each member of the MAL Unit is $40.*
Local League
This is a tightly structured group of at least 30 members who have been granted official recognition by the state and national Leagues. Local Leagues have their own bylaws, elect their own officers, and set their own dues. In addition to participating in state and national program items, they conduct an in-depth study of local government, and carry out voters service, action, public relations and financial development in their communities.
* dues for two members in one household are $60. The IRS requires us to remind you that dues are not tax-deductible.
